About Smart-Glass Technology:

PRIVASEE Smart-Glass is an electrically activated window glass that changes from Opaque to Clear with the flick of a switch, press of a remote, or a simple "Hey Google". This product is custom-made overseas and supplied as glass panels to suit your specific window sizes. These panels are made using a lamination of 2 sheets of glass, with a Smart Film layer in between. There are a wide range of glass types that can be supplied in these laminations, including different thicknesses and high-performance glass types. Once on site, these glass panels are installed in the same way normal glass windows would be installed.

Glass is activated by our exclusive “PowerEdge” technology. PowerEdge is generally fitted to one side only, either at the top, bottom, or either side of the window, depending on the room configuration. For long, slender glass, it might be necessary to fit the PowerEdge at both ends of the glass to ensure reliable activation or one of the long sides. PowerEdge is exclusive to RediShade-AU! Operation is all low voltage, with just a power transformer required to plug into a nearby power outlet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if power is lost in my house?

The “OFF” state (unpowered state) of the glass is opaque, so if you lose power, the glass will immediately turn opaque, and your privacy is protected. Power must be present to turn the glass clear (ie, “ON” state).

Will the standard white glass give me day and night privacy?

Yes, when the glass is in the “OFF” state, it will turn opaque and it is not possible to see any detail through it, unless the object is within just 20-30cm from the window. Daytime privacy will generally be close to 100%. Depending on your room layout, it might be possible to see shadows inside the room at night for people or objects that are close to the inside glass surface, but no details are visible, and your privacy is maintained.

How much light will come into my house after the white glass is fitted?

When the glass is “ON” (clear), you will get around 90% of the light transmission achieved with no glass. When the glass turns “OFF” (opaque), there will be around 50% light transmission into your room, which will appear like an even soft glow.

Are there other colour glass, apart from white?

Yes, aside from white, which is our most popular colour, there is also grey and black tinted glass. When these are “ON”, they do not turn clear, but allow you to see out and in through a grey/black tinted layer, somewhat like car tint. When these glasses are opaque (“OFF”), they allow much less light into the room than white glass and will provide much more light blocking into the room during the daytime.

Do I need to buy a separate power transformer for each window?

No, the output from a transformer can be shared across multiple windows. Each transformer comes in a range of power ratings, which correlate with a maximum m2 of glass. The smallest transformer might be suitable for just 4 to 6m2, but there are versions that can power up to 24m2 of Smart Glass, all sharing the same transformer. The only thing to keep in mind is that a shared transformer means all the connected Smart Glass will always be controlled as a single group, not individually switchable.

Can PRIVASEE Smart Glass be installed by a DIY person?

We would always recommend that PRIVASEE Smart Glass be professionally installed by a qualified glass installer. If you believe that you have the skills required to install your own smart glass panels, then please ask us for support and we will do our best to assist.  be aware that DIY installation might complicate issues around product warranty.

I have glass doors, can I use PRIVASEE Smart Glass on these?

Yes, that’s no problem! We have different hardware kits available that can be used for all types of doors, including hinged, sliding and stackers doors. If you specify the type of door at time of enquiry, then we will include these in the quote.
